Derek Henrichs, Ph.D., CPA, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of South Carolina. He has taught a range of courses at both the undergraduate and master’s levels, including accounting information systems, managerial accounting, financial accounting, auditing, and tax. Derek’s research interests focus on managerial and financial accounting, explored through the lenses of behavioral economics and archival financial data. Before his role at South Carolina, he served as affiliated faculty at the University of Virginia and the University of Mississippi. Outside of academia, Derek has provided accounting, finance, and research consulting for organizations across the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Earlier in his career, he worked as an auditor for HCA Healthcare and interned as a financial analyst with Schneider Electric (Square D). He holds an M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from South Carolina, along with a BBA in Accounting from Trevecca Nazarene University and a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Mississippi. Derek is an active member of the American Accounting Association (Management and Forensic Accounting sections), a fellow of the Heritage Academy, an academic member of the Institute of Management Accountants Honor Society, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa.
